O’Brien Field

Rocky Vonachen“I give a lot of credit to them. We had already announced our Opening Day date and couldn’t really change it. They really worked hard and overcame some major obstacles to get the project completed early. They found a way to get it done.”

Design/build responsibility for a new downtown baseball stadium with a total seating capacity of approximately 7,500, including 20 private suites. This state-of-the-art minor league facility includes underground locker room facilities, indoor training facilities and a batting cage. Other amenities include a full kitchen facility on the concourse level to service concession areas as well as a gourmet kitchen on the suite level to service the private suites.

While building the baseball stadium, workers discovered a phone duct bank running through the site. The bank contained over 14,000 pairs of phone wires, and phone crews were not immediately able to remove the obstruction. In order to continue crucial concrete work, crews dug underneath and built a support structure for the bank. As a result, the bank is completely encased within the stadium walls. The project progressed according to schedule and the Peoria Chiefs were able to play their Opening Day game as planned.
