$6.5 million of renovation in 10 weeks
Newman Center is an existing 5-story dormitory building which has served University of Illinois students for over 70 years. The directive from the owner was to retrofit and upgrade the entire facility to address current life safety issues as well as upgrading existing plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems without displacing the residents. After a thorough review of all options, the project team decided to accomplish all of the required $6.5 million work during a 10-week period over the summer when students were not present.
