Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts, Illinois State University

Normal, IL

Project Summary

Many of the existing buildings within the fine arts complex were not originally designed for their current instructional and training purposes, resulting in frequent repairs to maintain safety and functionality. The Centennial buildings date back to 1959, the Center for Visual Arts was constructed in 1973, and the Center for the Performing Arts followed in 2002.

This transformative, phased project encompasses approximately 280,000 SF of major renovations to these aging facilities. It includes the demolition of the Centennial West building and the construction of multiple new additions to support music, theater, dance, visual arts, and academic instruction—creating a modern, purpose-built environment for the next generation of artists and performers.
