River City Design Group (RCDG) is seeking an experienced and collaborative Project Architect with 5-10 years of experience. You will join a small team of designers who operate in a welcoming, creativity-driven environment that values creative collaboration amongst the Design Team and with our Construction Management teams. As an Architect at River City Design Group, you will have a unique opportunity to work for a design firm that is within the umbrella of River City Construction, a commercial construction firm.

RCDG’s clients include Fortune 50 companies, Army Corp of Engineers, multiple Healthcare organizations, Religious organizations, and Private Clients in emerging markets. As a Project Architect, you will be involved in the entire design process from concept and site development, to programming, design development, and construction administration. You will be the steward of our teams and our projects, developing quality and unified design.

The ROLE…

PROJECT ARCHITECT

The Project Architect plans, coordinates, and engages in programming, site development, design development, production drawing and construction detailing. Additionally, the Project Architect will see the project through the construction administration process. More specifically, the following:

  1. Coordinate with Client / Owner to develop project program, goals, schedule and budget.
  2. Coordinate and direct activities of the project team, including engineering or programming consultants.
  3. Understand project budgets and ability to design within the parameters established.
  4. Review project scope to determine timeframe, internal resource availability, develop procedures to hit deliverables, and initiate / lead project teams to achieve deadlines and established budgets.
  5. Assist with mentorship / training of entry level Intern Architects.

The QUALIFICATIONS…

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, or related degree from an accredited program.
  2. 5 or more years of experience in design and documentation production.
  3. Illinois Architecture licensure preferred, but not required. If not licensed, candidate should be on path to licensure.
  4. Experience supervising entry level talent and leading project teams.
  5. Experience across multiple market sectors preferred, but not required.
  6. Proficiency with AutoDesk REVIT and other design technology programs.
  7. Proficient with construction software (Bluebeam, Viewpoint, TEAM, )
  8. Proficient with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
  9. Strong and effective organization skills.
  10. The ability to manage time and prioritize
  11. Excellent oral or written communication skills.
  12. Strong organizational skills.
  13. Ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Able to work and build commitment within the project

The ROLE…

ESTIMATOR

  1. Work as part of a project team in developing estimates for a wide range of construction projects.
  2. Review plans construction documents to prepare estimates for small commercial projects.
  3. Develop estimating take-off skills within specific self-perform divisions.
  4. Gather, calculate, and compile take-off data for pricing in bid proposal estimates.
  5. Utilize estimating software including: MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.), Bluebeam, SmartBid, WinEx, and others.
  6. Work closely with the Pre-Construction team, Project Management team, and Field Supervisory staff to solve project challenges.
  7. Assist in developing RFI’s for clarifications necessary throughout the bid process.
  8. Attend pre-bid meetings, site walk-throughs, participate in bid day efforts, and turn in bids.
  9. Solicit subcontractors, and coordinate vendor / supplier scopes of work.
  10. Define and outline risks, opportunities and challenges for each project bid.
  11. Meet critical bid day deadlines.

The QUALIFICATIONS…

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or a similarly related field preferred, but not required.
  2. 1-5 years experience in construction, especially estimating, preferred, but willing to train the right candidate.
  3. Proficient with construction software (Bluebeam, Viewpoint, TEAM, )
  4. Proficient with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
  5. Strong and effective organization skills.
  6. The ability to manage time and prioritize
  7. Able to work to meet project deadlines.
  8. Able to work and build commitment within the project
  9. Excellent oral or written communication skills.
  10. Ability to read and comprehend contract documents (plans and specifications).
  11. Attention to detail is a MUST.
  12. Highly analytical and excellent mathematical skills required.
  13. Strong organizational skills.
  14. Ability to function quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment.
  15. Ability to work in a collaborative team effort.

PROJECT MANAGER

  1. Ensure customer satisfaction by identifying and exceeding all client needs.
  2. Establish and maintain positive client and construction trades’ relationships.
  3. Plan and schedule projects.
  4. Estimate, value engineer, and develop project budgets.
  5. Ability to process, distribute, and track all project documentation.
  6. Develop and negotiate subcontracts and purchase orders.
  7. Manage jobs in progress including subcontractor coordination, conflict resolution, documentation, and ensuring quality and safety on every job.
  8. Work closely with engineers and architects to ensure the project is completed on budget and within scope.
  9. Manage project costs through the ongoing evaluation of labor, material, and equipment.
  10. Project coordination including but not limited to: RFI’s, Submittals, Document Control, Project Closeout, etc.
  11. Manage issues and risks.
  12. Forecast profits through completion.
  13. Capable of managing projects ranging from $5-$50 million in size.
  14. Comfortable making decisions, both large and small.
