East Campus Chilled Water Plant, University of Missouri

Columbia, MO

Project Summary

Phase 2 of the East Campus Chilled Water Plant project involved the construction of a 12,800 SF facility using concrete, structural steel, and masonry. The building houses two 1,500-ton electric centrifugal chillers and one 1,750-ton steam turbine centrifugal chiller, along with supporting infrastructure such as cooling towers, pumps, control systems, plumbing, compressed air, steam piping, and other essential mechanical systems.

Designed to supply chilled water to the east side of campus, the new plant also includes a medium-voltage feed from existing campus facilities, delivered through a buried ductbank. Additional upgrades feature pad-mounted transformers, switchgear, and variable frequency drives for mechanical equipment. The facility is further enhanced with a network of under-slab conduits and raceways, optimizing efficiency and system performance.
