New Water Treatment Plant, Illinois American Water

Alton, IL

Project Summary

This project entailed the development of a new 16-million-gallon-per-day (MGD) water treatment plant, replacing a century-old facility vulnerable to flooding. The new plant includes a raw water pump station, four clarifiers, six filtration units, state-of-the-art treatment and chemical processing areas, administrative offices, and an integrated clear well and pump station building.

“Illinois American Water appreciated the work performed by River City to deliver the Alton Water Treatment Facility on a difficult site and under an aggressive time schedule.  The facility was a new 16-Miilion Gallon a Day (MGD) water treatment facility to replace a 100 year old facility that was susceptible to flooding.  The workmanship and teamwork exhibit during this project made us confident when awarding them a design build contract for a new 15-MGD Water Treatment Facility in Champaign that is nearing completion.  River City has reinforced our confidence in them by being able to construct the new facility on a green site under tight time schedule and being able to meet significant milestones and address weather difficulties during the project’s construction.

River City excels at being a “team player” with our staff and with our consultants and representatives. In addition, River City has been associated with several Design Build projects that have been highly successful due to their diligence in communications and leadership in the project during design and construction.

We appreciate the work that River City has performed for us in the past and look forward to working them on future company projects.”  – Brent O’Neill, Engineering Manager
