Columbia, MO
The Center for Missouri Studies features a second-floor research hub, providing students, researchers, patrons, and genealogists direct access to the State Historical Society of Missouri’s extensive collections. Its striking first-floor gallery is thoughtfully designed to display one-of-a-kind art pieces, while versatile public spaces accommodate a wide range of events.
Incorporating Missouri’s natural resources, the building’s exterior showcases locally sourced limestone, while the showcase entry stair and stunning library ceiling are crafted from Missouri white oak. The project proudly achieved USGBC Gold Certification, reflecting its commitment to sustainability and excellence.
“Construction of a new museum, library, or archive is not a common project in our society. RCC had to learn about the special needs of cultural heritage institutions just as SHSMO had to learn about the construction process. Chris Hart, Kelly Hequembourg, and Don Evans proved to be excellent students and teachers. They understood the historical value of the collections that the building would be protecting and it showed in the care they took in constructing the building. Furthermore, they generously offered their time and expertise to SHSMO to explain in detail each step of the construction process.”
